Boron containing ultra high molecular weight polyethylene board(含硼超高分子量聚乙烯板)

The rapid development and application of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) plate containing boron in nuclear power, 

radiological diagnosis and treatment, industry, high-energy physics research and other fields has become an important radiation damage hazard factor.

In terms of fast neutron shielding principle, high density polyethylene has a good moderating effect on fast neutron, and boron element (10B) has a 

high thermal neutron absorption cross section. 

Therefore, boron polyethylene with a certain content of 10B becomes a good shielding material for fast neutron shielding.

In order to improve the neutron shielding effect and reduce the cost of boron-containing polyethylene shielding materials, 

a boron-containing ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) plate was developed according to the characteristics of polyethylene 

with large diffuse fast neutron and boron thermal neutron absorption cross section.

Polyethylene is a hydrocarbon containing a large amount of hydrogen, up to 7.92*10^22 atoms /cm. 

It is a good moderator for fast neutrons.However, due to the constant elastic collision between neutron and hydrogen nucleus in the material, 

energy is lost, and finally it is slowed down to thermal neutron, which can only be absorbed by the material after a certain diffusion distance.
